“SACIM, the Sino-Congolese partnership that divides public opinion in the DRC”

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, the affair of the Sino-Congolese partnership SACIM continues to make noise in the sociopolitical universe. Independent analysts recently revealed the underside of this affair which would implicate the former governor of Kasaï-Oriental, Ngoyi Kasanji, considered close to the old regime and defender of the interests of the Kabila family in Mbuji-Mayi.

Previously, the production was sold outside the country and the share supposed to go to the DRC was diverted in favor of a “monster” who wanted to see the Congolese, in particular those living in the Kasaï area, sink into immeasurable misery. . To remedy this injustice, the government created Tenders which allowed any buyer able to conclude the market, to do so freely and without constraint.

Although the creation of these spaces has lifted the Congolese people out of poverty, some crooked actors continue to defend their own interests, prisoners of their greed and selfishness. This is undoubtedly the case of Ngoyi Kasanji who, through his mining company, paid neither tax nor tax. With the opening of sales of SACIM diamonds, the former governor of Kasaï-Oriental would have lost a very lucrative source of income, hence his anger at this decision.

The President of the Republic, Félix Tshisekedi, for his part encouraged foreign investors to come to the DRC, but also to support local economic operators to develop the country with a view to a stronger and more inclusive economy. At the same time, the country is facing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis in the east of the country, which requires increased mobilization of the international community to come to the aid of the populations concerned.

In sum, the Sino-Congolese partnership SACIM continues to divide public opinion in the DRC. The various actors must work together to guarantee a responsible and equitable exploitation of natural resources, and thus allow all Congolese to benefit from the economic spinoffs.
