North Kivu, a province in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, is plagued by an upsurge in insecurity. Indeed, the terrorist organization Democratic and Allied Forces (ADF) is increasing attacks against villages around Mambasa, in the south of the province, on the borders with the provinces of Tshopo, Haut-Uelé and Ituri. The latest report shows 14 civilians still in the hands of jihadists, and 5 victims in total.
This resurgence of insecurity worries the population of the region and pushes certain NGOs such as the New Congolese Civil Society to call for an intensification of army patrols as well as a strengthening of the vigilance of the population. ADF rebels are still present in the surrounding forests, which makes the situation even more complex.
It is important that the local authorities take concrete measures to guarantee the safety of the populations in this region, where violence has become a daily threat for the inhabitants. Hope the situation improves soon in order to preserve peace and stability in the region
