Modernization of ports in the DRC: a crucial issue for the economic development of the country

The modernization of ports in the Democratic Republic of Congo was the subject of a meeting between the Prime Minister, Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde, and certain members of the Government. During this working session, they discussed the implementation of various projects aimed at modernizing the main ports of the country, in particular those of the SCTP and those of the SNCC.

The Head of Government issued clear guidelines on the need to act quickly to modernize port infrastructure. He notably declared that DP World can perform calmly in the construction works of the deep water port of Banana in Kongo Central. However, the Qatari firm is still carrying out the first riprap work on the site.

These port modernization works in the DRC are crucial for the economic development of the country. Maritime transport is indeed a key sector for international trade and for the import-export of goods. This is why the modernization of ports is a major challenge for the DRC, which wishes to strengthen its position on the world market.

The modernization of ports should also be accompanied by an improvement in road and rail transport infrastructure. Indeed, the ports must be connected to the rest of the country to allow a smooth circulation of goods.

In conclusion, the modernization of ports in the DRC is a major challenge for the economic development of the country. The various projects in progress will have to be completed to allow a smooth circulation of goods and strengthen the position of the DRC on the world market.
