On the occasion of International Nurses Day, the President of the National Order of Nurses of Congo (ONIC), Mr. Komba Djeko launched a strong message to promote the nursing profession. In a statement, he deplores the lack of hospitals equipped for the work of nurses in the country. While the theme of this Day for the year 2023 is “Our nurses, our future”, the president of ONIC indicates that it is vital to give this profession the recognition it deserves, stressing that everyone cannot become a nurse.
Indeed, the environment par excellence of the work of the nurse is the place of care, that is to say the hospital and the health center. But if these places are not equipped or do not meet safety standards, this makes the nurse’s job more difficult. This profession is nevertheless essential in our society. It is urgent to give the means to these health professionals to work in optimal conditions and offer better medical follow-up to the Congolese population.
In this context, it is therefore important that the authorities mobilize to develop hospital infrastructure in the country and to improve the working conditions of nurses. ONIC works tirelessly to highlight the importance of this profession and to ensure that nurses are recognized at their fair value. This requires in particular the establishment of strict regulations, ensuring optimal training of future nurses, in order to guarantee their quality of work and their competence.
International Nurses Day aims to raise public awareness of the importance of this often underrecognized profession. We hope that this event will contribute to moving things forward so that we finally recognize the crucial role of nurses, major players in our health system.
In short, the nursing profession is of major importance for our society, it is therefore essential to give nurses the means to work in optimal conditions so that their work is more effective. The government must therefore mobilize to support this profession and provide optimal working conditions for the well-being of health care workers and the population.
