The Union for the Congolese Nation (UNC) is in the midst of an internal crisis. The divide between the pragmatic vision and the anti-values is becoming more and more pronounced. The party fighters who join the “Vital Kamerhe libela” (VKL) trade union movement, whose aim is to support their President’s fight for a prosperous and socially just Democratic Republic of the Congo, oppose a small group of individuals who seek to pull the party down by exalting nepotism, clientelism and discrimination.
The situation is such that some members are leaving the party, such as the Honorable Mirindi Cyarangabo, who recently resigned from all his functions on the National Council of the UNC.
The VKL trade union movement, meanwhile, is actively working to strengthen the foundations of the party and protect the values advocated by their President in the future elections of 2023. Life Kamerhists, in their action, will continue to align themselves with the orientations of their leader to the end, whatever the price to pay to get rid of offenders.
Faced with the urgency of the situation, it is time for party officials to neutralize acts of selfishness and egocentrism, at the risk of seeing unease spread within the UNC. Thus, the party will be able to continue to work for the development of the Democratic Republic of Congo, in accordance with the values of democracy, social justice and equity, values that VKL is ready to defend tooth and nail.
In short, the situation of the UNC demonstrates more than ever the need for sound and transparent governance, as well as fair and equitable decision-making, if we wish to contribute significantly to the development of the country.
