The security situation in the DRC remains worrying. According to the coordination of the New Congolese Civil Society (NSCC), 14 civilians are currently detained by the Ugandan rebels of the Democratic and Allied Forces (ADF).
The kidnappings took place during incursions by jihadists in localities in the Bangole group and in Makumo, south of the center of Mambasa, a territory sharing the border between the provinces of North Kivu, Ituri, Tshopo and Haut-Uélé, at the beginning of May. Unfortunately, five civilians lost their lives in these terrorist attacks.
Faced with this resurgence of insecurity, the New Congolese Civil Society calls on the army to intensify patrols and the population to increase their vigilance, because the rebels are still visible in the surrounding forests.
It is important to emphasize that the security situation in the DRC remains unstable despite the authorities’ efforts to put an end to it. Attacks by armed groups, particularly the ADF, continue to cause civilian and military casualties.
It is therefore necessary to strengthen cooperation between the countries of the region to overcome the insecurity that prevails in eastern DRC. Security must be a top priority for the country to develop and prosper
