Palm oil production has been a major industrial sector in the Democratic Republic of Congo for more than 100 years thanks to the company Plantations et Huileries du Congo (PHC). Since its creation in 1911, PHC has become the largest producer of industrial palm oil in the DRC and generates more than 7,500 jobs in rural areas of the country. In 2022, the company produced more than 60,000 tons of palm oil, an increase of 35% in two years, testifying to the growth of this company.
The new management of PHC under the leadership of Mrs. Monique Gieskes has brought about an organizational transformation in 2021, allowing the adoption of new innovative approaches and the recruitment of a diverse and qualified workforce. Through this transformation, the company is focusing more on the value of employees by providing them with safe and healthy working conditions, thereby ensuring the success of employees and that of PHC.
In addition to improving its operational strategy, PHC is also emphasizing community interest. Thus, the company has already built 19 schools, 9 health centers and more than 70 boreholes for local populations in the provinces of Tshopo, Mongala and Equateur. It also provides quality medical care to more than 150,000 people through the provision of four hospitals, three health centers and 18 dispensaries. PHC’s role in society is therefore also dedicated to the needs of local populations.
The company is celebrating 112 years of palm oil production this year, and it’s not the only celebration. Indeed, under PHC’s new vision, the company delivers shared prosperity through agribusiness, one of the largest economic sectors in the DRC. She therefore not only ensures the growth of the business but also meets the needs of the local population. The company has an ambition for economic diversification, enabling solid and stable growth in the Congolese agro-industrial sector.
Under the leadership of Monique Gieskes, PHC is therefore operating in a new dynamic, focused on economic diversification, improving the quality of life of workers, as well as supporting the Congolese agricultural region to guarantee continued success for the society and the DRC as a whole
