Mobilization of security forces to stabilize the situation in the DRC in the face of complex challenges

The Democratic Republic of Congo is currently facing a series of complex challenges, including inter-communal violence that is leading to mass displacement of people and an unprecedented humanitarian crisis. The government recently announced security operations in several regions of the country to restore order and peace.

The Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sama Lukonde, chaired a security meeting on May 12 to examine the situation in the eastern part of the capital, particularly in the commune of Maluku, as well as in the territory from Kwamouth to Mai-Ndombe and Kisangani, capital of Tshopo. Members of the government and officials of the defense and security services took part.

For Peter Kazadi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and Security, it is necessary to restore the authority of the State which was upset by the bandits. It is a question of launching large-scale operations which have been entrusted to the defense and security forces in order to restore order and security in all the pockets of the country today rendered unlivable following the insecurity caused by some of our compatriots.

These security operations come as the country faces a new conflict between the Mbole and Lengola communities in the urban-rural commune of Lubunga in Kisangani. This conflict comes on top of another in the west of the country, which has claimed at least 300 lives in less than a year, according to Human Rights Watch.

At the same time, the Democratic Republic of Congo is pursuing its economic development by joining forces with other countries, such as Botswana. President Felix Tshisekedi visited this country to examine the model of economic success based on diamond mining and to encourage investment and job creation.

Beyond these actions, sensitive issues continue to divide the DRC, such as the sensitive issue of dowry and polygamy, which has been debated for several months. The audit of the electoral register is also an important subject for the opposition, which recommends national expertise.

The Democratic Republic of Congo is therefore facing many challenges, requiring effective political and economic responses to improve the living conditions of its citizens.
