Title: A new coordinator at the head of the Agricultural Sector Support Project in North Kivu (PASA-NK): a promise of consolidation
The Support Project for the Agricultural Sector in North Kivu, better known by its acronym PASA-NK, welcomes under its supervision a new national coordinator to better support small farmers in the region. Mr. Joseph Matungulu, who took office this Thursday, May 11 in Goma, wanted to reassure the stakeholders that the achievements already obtained to date will be reinforced.
The new head of PASA-NK is well aware of the challenges awaiting the project, which is why he asked for the support of all his collaborators as well as partners to better achieve the assigned objectives. According to the coordinator, the expertise of each stakeholder has contributed to PASA-NK having succeeded in achieving the expected results so far.
PASA-NK aims to increase the yield of small producers and increase their incomes by improving the productivity and profitability of four crops grown by local farmers, namely maize, rice, potato and arabica coffee. Funding for this project is largely provided by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
The project, which was to have been launched in 2016, finally saw the light of day only on December 6, 2018, with an execution rate of 70%. Of the 33,400 beneficiary households listed, 23,236 are supported by this project through 130 grassroots farmers’ organizations.
Continuing the action of his predecessor, Daniel Bunambo, who assumed the interim, Joseph Matungulu praised the achievements of PASA-NK so far while urging stakeholders to a continued commitment to achieving the goals. goals.
The inauguration ceremony was chaired by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture, José Ilanga, on a working mission to Goma in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He praised the work done so far by PASA-NK and called on all partners to support the new team for the success of the mission assigned to it.
To achieve these ambitions, Mr. Matungulu will be able to rely on a solid team, but above all on the mobilization of all the stakeholders, necessary for the success of such an ambitious project.
