The electoral mediation mission of religious denominations in the DRC congratulated the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) for its work of identifying and registering voters carried out in just four months. In a statement, she welcomed the decision of the CENI for an external audit of the electoral register to ensure transparency in the operation of the revision of the electoral register.
The mission encouraged the CENI to continue to show openness and to ensure its independence, guaranteed by the constitution of the Republic. After having launched a call for tenders for expert files, a mixed mission of national and international experts is planned for the CENI in order to audit the electoral register.
The rapid completion of the voter identification and registration process in four months, considered unrealistic by many electoral experts, was praised. It should be noted that the CENI had decided to launch a call for tenders for the experts’ files after the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF) refused to audit the electoral register, justified by the short deadline for the work.
It is encouraging to see all parties taking an interest in the work of the CENI, enhancing the credibility of the upcoming elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo
