“DRC: New deadly attack by ADF rebels in the Beni region”

The region of Beni, in North Kivu of the DRC, was the scene of a new attack attributed to Ugandan rebels ADF. The latter, which took place on the Semuliki ferry bridge, resulted in the death of three civilians and the burning of two vehicles and a motorcycle. The alleged fighters then took the ferry bridge, making traffic difficult on this road axis.

The attack began at local time when the attackers came from the left bank to attack the position of the naval force first. Local authorities said the ADF killed the three civilians guarding the bridge.

According to an observer in the region, the bridge ferry carried by the ADF would help them to move easily on the banks of the Semuliki river. The ADF are accused of having killed thousands of civilians in the area for eight years in the Beni region.

This attack is the umpteenth recorded on the Karuruma axis attributed to the rebels. At the end of 2021, the Congolese and Ugandan armies launched joint operations against the ADF but the violence does not stop.

It is therefore in a particularly tense context that the authorities of the region must redouble their vigilance to ensure the safety of the population.
