The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) recently implemented a media safety system to regulate the television channels present in Kinshasa. Of the 262 channels listed, only 107 of them have been admitted to digital terrestrial television (DTT).
According to the Minister of Communication and Media, Patrick Muyaya, any channel not on the list will be disconnected. To remain in activity, it is therefore necessary to appear on the list of these 107 channels. In addition, the supplier must have a quality harness. All channels listed with laptops deposited at the Binza Broadcast Center will be disconnected.
In order to control the compliance of the media, a clean-up commission recently sat in the office of the Minister of Communication and the Media. As soon as the decree signed by Patrick Muyaya was published, the disconnection of non-compliant media, broadcasting in Kinshasa, was carried out by the Director of Cabinet, the Secretary General for Communication and Media, the Managing Director of the National Network of telecommunications by satellite (Rénatelsat) and the Coordinator of CNM/TNT.
This operation aimed to ensure the safety and quality of the content presented to the Congolese population. Remember that DTT improves telecommunications in the DRC, and expands the reach of television channels. The remediation measures taken by the government will therefore improve the quality of the content offered
