“State exams in the Democratic Republic of Congo: a challenge in the face of insecurity”

The out-of-session exams for the 2023 edition of the State exams began in the Democratic Republic of Congo on May 8th. In the province of Ituri, 26,500 candidates from the educational provinces of Ituri 1, 2 and 3 took part in the national tests which are taking place in a tense security context following the looting suffered by EPST inspectors transporting examination items in the Djugu region.

Faced with these disruptions, the educational and political-administrative authorities have taken steps to ensure the safety of students and guarantee optimal examination conditions. The provincial director of EPST Ituri 1, Jean Jacques Masumbuko Butaka called on students to stay focused despite their stress related to insecurity.

This news is of capital importance for Congolese youth in search of training and professional integration. Through this test, they submit to a national evaluation which is a turning point in their university life.

Apart from exams, other news mark the socio-economic and political life of the DRC. In the sports field, Congolese boxing failed to qualify for the quarter-finals of the World Cup and a football match opposed Morocco to Algeria for a place in the semi-finals of the CAN U17.

In addition, a scandal shakes the Congolese football federation, which is accused of bad intentions by a former deputy secretary general, while a complaint for high treason against President Félix Tshisekedi creates political turmoil.

These subjects are closely followed by the Congolese population and constitute important sources of information for understanding the evolution of the situation in Congo.
