“Return to calm on the river axis of the Congo: Peace regained after serious attacks”

The situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo is often marked by conflicts, attacks and violence of all kinds. However, some news can be reassuring about the calm that is gradually returning to certain regions of the country.

This is the case on the fluvial axis of the Congo River where maritime traffic now takes place peacefully. Recall that last March, attacks were perpetrated against boats, leaving more than 100 people missing. But according to the chairman of the pacification commission set up by the government, Fabrice Kavabioko, the ships are now circulating without danger.

During an interview with actualité.cd, the latter said that calm has returned to the town of Maluku and Kwamouth. This conflict mainly concerned the farmers and the traditional Teke chiefs, because the farmers had acquired land from the Teke, before the latter began to resell it to other people, especially from the old regime. The farmers then demanded their rights, which led to clashes with the Teke.

The latter ignored their demands and chased them away by force. The President and the Minister of the Interior then sent a commission to Maluku to try to resolve the conflict. During his speech, Fabrice Kavabioko made a point of specifying that there were neither Rwandans nor Mbororo herders in the region, contrary to what had been reported. It was only Congolese who were fighting among themselves.

In sum, despite the persistent difficulties, it is encouraging to note that efforts are being made to restore peace and security in the regions plagued by violence and instability in the DRC.
