“DRC: A major renovation of university sites and a new approach to professional education announced at the Council of Ministers”

During the 97th meeting of the Council of Ministers in the Democratic Republic of Congo, it was announced that the construction and rehabilitation works of the various university sites were about to be completed. This first phase concerns in particular the University of Kinshasa, the National Pedagogical University and the National Institute of Buildings and Public Works. Prime Minister Sama Lukonde pointed out that the President of the Republic had recently inaugurated the first phase of this work at the National Pedagogical University, with the rehabilitation of two student homes which had been deserted since 2012. This improvement comes after 60 years since the construction of this first official university of the Congolese State.

The head of government also announced the forthcoming opening of the cultural and artistic center for Central Africa which will house the National Institute of Arts (INA). With regard to vocational training and trades, a new post-crisis approach aimed at the transition from the informal economy to the formal model has been proposed by the Ministry of Vocational Training and Trades.

In addition, the Prime Minister also addressed the issue of preparation for state exams, which begin this Monday, May 8. He recalled that the government was doing its best to keep Bibwa’s commitments and reassess in Mbwela. He took the opportunity to wish good luck to the finalists.

In short, these rehabilitation works on the various university sites as well as the other educational measures taken by the government give reason to hope that the country’s education system will quickly recover. This bodes well for the future, as an educated population is an essential factor for a country’s growth and sustainable development.
